Bridging the Gap in Postpartum Recovery: How Pelvic Floor Therapy Empowers Women’s Health and Healing
More often than not, there is a major disconnect between a woman's pregnancy and her postpartum recovery journey. As her baby grows in utero, her expectations are managed, her bodily changes are carefully supported, and her questions are answered thoroughly. Once that baby is born, however, such nurturing care typically comes to an abrupt end.
Most mothers are sent home without any plan in place for one of the most significant women’s health recoveries of their lives. They are told to “sleep when the baby sleeps” without any further education or tools to empower them in their healing. As the weeks and months and years go by, they become conditioned to believe that pelvic floor dysfunction, painful sex, incontinence, and “mom pooch” are just inevitable consequences of childbirth.
Inside Dr. Lindsay’s Recovery Program
At Maliya, we believe that such a disconnect is not just disrespectful, but completely unacceptable. The beautiful, transformative experience of giving birth should not be coupled with seemingly irreparable pain and dysfunction.
Thankfully, Dr. Lindsay’s pelvic floor rehabilitation and postpartum recovery program bridges that gap.
Her tailored, evidence-based program lasts anywhere from 8–12 weeks. The program length may vary depending on patient comfort and ability, but the pelvic floor and deep core muscle activation happens every time. Dr. Lindsay uses breathwork, functional movement, and targeted exercises to strengthen weak, injured muscles and rebuild stability, containment, and control throughout the body.
She is committed to a non-invasive, trauma-informed care approach, which means that her patients are fully clothed at all times and the rehabilitation process is entirely external - ensuring safety, comfort, and respect for every individual.
Patients leave each session feeling supported, empowered, and confident in their bodies. They consistently report improvements such as improved function, reduced pain, and renewed confidence. Some women have even reported that their incontinence and/or prolapse resolve entirely after completing Dr. Lindsay's program. More often than not, we see visible core repair - where the “mom pooch” flattens - as well as stronger posture, alignment, and overall well-being.
Beyond Postpartum: Pelvic Health for Every Woman
While much of the focus of pelvic floor therapy is on postpartum women, it doesn’t stop there! Pelvic health is a crucial part of holistic wellness for women of all ages. Since pelvic floor and deep core issues often arise from trauma, and childbirth is just one form of trauma, not all of our patients are mothers. Trauma can mean anything from sexual assault recovery to repetitive strain from activities like horseback riding and mountain biking.
Regardless, our goal is always to nurture women and girls on their path to sustainable, lifelong wellness through personalized rehabilitation, compassionate care, and a deep understanding of the mind-body connection.
